Say hello to every gardener's dream apple tree! The Golden Delicious apple tree is one of the world's most popular apple trees and is among the easiest and most dependable apple trees to grow. Commonly called the Yellow Delicious apple tree.

Golden Delicious apple trees are self-pollinators, so they'll grow and produce apples without another apple tree in your garden. In addition to being a self-pollinator, Golden Delicious apple trees also make one of the best cross-pollinators for other varieties such as Red Delicious or Granny Smith. Since they have such a long bloom period, Golden Delicious apple trees are on a short list of rooster trees! It provides pollen so readily that even a neighboring apple tree down the road can use this fruit tree for cross-pollination.
This semi-dwarf variety of Golden Delicious apple trees grows from 15 to 20 feet tall and wide when mature. The branch width at full size will also be about 15 to 20 feet wide as well. If you are going to plant more than one apple tree on your property, Golden Delicious or otherwise, make sure to leave about 20 feet between each of them, to allow room to grow.
The Golden Delicious apple season will start at different times of the year depending on where you live and when your last frost date is. Beautiful clusters of pink flower buds open to reveal creamy white blooms in the early spring growing season. From September to October, the fruit will turn from a pale green to their familiar golden green color. This signals that they are ripe and ready to be picked, all the way until fall, when they will become dormant again until the following spring.

The unique traits of this sweet apple then led it to be intentionally cloned for commercial use. Later, it was named the state tree for West Virginia.
Our semi-dwarf variety of Golden Delicious apple trees starts to produce fruit in about 4-6 years of maturity. Once picked, the golden fruits are best as short-storage eating apples.
The apple's thin skin and delicious crispness in its white flesh make the Golden Delicious ideal for eating good fresh off the tree and for baking. The apple's yellow peel and sweetly tangy flavor make a tempting snack. Our favorite way to use this is as apple pie or apple sauce.
